Where the Data Comes From
IBAN validation is purely algorithmic: the ISO 13616 country format registry (78 countries) plus the ISO 7064 mod-97 checksum. There is no lookup database, and validation of your IBAN happens entirely in your browser.
The country format registry is updated when ISO publishes changes (new countries join the IBAN system roughly once a year).
What It Can and Cannot Tell You
A valid checksum proves the number is structurally correct, not that the account exists. Always verify recipient details before sending money.

We compile data from the sources above in good faith, but no dataset of this kind is perfect: institutions change codes, ranges get reassigned, and datasets lag reality.
